One of
the awesome privileges we have is to share the Gospel message
with those who seek our services. We want to offer you that
same message - and we hope that you, too, will choose to follow
Jesus!
When
we talk about "knowing God," we're talking about
having a "loving and personal relationship with a loving
and personal God." "Religion" is man's best
effort to establish that relationship, but we believe that
God has already revealed the way to Him in His Word - the
Bible. And, we believe that it's essential that we come to
God on HIS terms - not ours.
The prophet
Isaiah said in Isaiah 55:6-9 - "call upon the
Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his
thoughts; let him turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy
on him; and to our God, for He will freely pardon. 'For My
thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,'
says the Lord. 'For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than
your thoughts.'" Therefore, we need to recognize
that our ways are not God's ways!
Proverbs
14:12 says: "There is a way that seems right to
a man, but its end is the way of death." This phrase
is repeated in Proverbs 16:25 - it was so important
to God that we get this message that He said it twice! What
is He saying? Left to our own devices, we end up on the road
leading towards death! Jesus also said that this was true.
In Matthew 7:13,14 Jesus says: "Enter by the
narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that
leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which
leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Knowing
God - on HIS terms - is not easy! It means that we must choose
to walk a "narrow road" with Him, and it's not easy
to be different.
In John
14:6, Jesus also said that He is the way, the truth and
the life - not "a way," but "the way!"
Knowing Jesus - being in an intimate relationship with Him
- is the only way to be in a right relationship with God.
How can we know Jesus? By knowing His Word! Jesus says in
Matthew 24:35 that "Heaven and earth will pass
away, but My words will by no means pass away." God
hasn't left us without guidance - He has given us His word,
and if we "hide it in our heart" we will know how
to have a right relationship with Him!
From
our study of God's Word, we believe that in order to have
a right relationship with Him, we must: Admit that we have
sinned and fallen short of what God expects of us -
"All
we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one,
to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity
of us all." Isaiah 53:6
"But
your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your
sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear."
Isaiah 59:2
"...for
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23
"But
the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise
by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe."
Galatians 3:22
We must
believe that Jesus loves us and died to pay for our sins,
and that He rose from the dead -
"But
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans
5:8
"...that
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and
that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according
to the Scriptures,..."
I Corinthians 15:3,4
"For
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn
the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
John 3:16,17
We must
confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior -
"...if
you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in
your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will
be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Romans 10:9,10
"Therefore
whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before
My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men,
him I will deny before My Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 10:32,33
"I
have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and
gave Himself for me."
Galatians 2:20
While
"confessing" Jesus as our Lord includes sharing
the Gospel, it also means that we are witnesses by how we
live. Our lives must show that we are following Him - that
HE is in charge - that we are submitted to Him - that we are
radically different because of our faith in Him! If our lips
say one thing, and our lives say another, we aren't really
letting Jesus be our Lord! That means that we follow the leading
of the Holy Spirit, and the direction He's given us in His
Word! Otherwise, "If we say that we have fellowship
with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus
Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."
I John
1:6,7
Jesus
told Nicodemus that he had to be "born again" in
order to see the Kingdom of God. We can't enter heaven - or
a right relationship with God - without our spirits being
"made alive" in Him. We can't walk the "narrow
path" without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit - Who
comes to live and dwell in our hearts when we surrender to
Jesus. When we yield to Him, He promises to change us, and
He chooses to see us as a "new creation!"
If you
want to be "born again" - to have that right relationship
with God - all you have to do is - Admit that you've sinned
- Believe that Jesus died for your sins, and that He is risen
from the dead - and Confess Him as your Lord and Savior! If
you're ready to do that, then you can just pray this simple
prayer:
Dear
God, I admit that I have sinned against you. I have made choices
that have been wrong, and I am sorry. I believe that Jesus
died to pay for my sins, and that He has risen from the dead.
I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and in the best way
I know how, I give you my life, and ask you to take control.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
If you
have prayed that prayer, the Bible says that you have become
a "new creature in Christ!" It also says that the
angels are rejoicing in heaven! There are some things you
need to do now, so that you grow in your faith. It's important
that you be in fellowship - that you attend church regularly,
and the best kind of church is one that will teach directly
from the Bible.
If you
don't know where to go, we recommend that you look for a "Calvary
Chapel" in your area (click
here to find one near you). You also need to pray - to
communicate with God. And - you need to read the Bible. If
you've never read the Bible before, we recommend that you
read the Gospel of John first, since it will tell you all
about Jesus. If you don't have a Bible, and would like a free
New Testament, let us know, and we'll gladly send you one!
We also hope you'll let us know that you've made this important
decision so we can pray for you!
"Eye
has not see, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart
of man the things which God has prepared for those who love
Him!"
I Corinthians 2:9
