Planned Parenthood Revelations

7/28/2015

It was difficult to watch - but I forced myself to watch last week's video showing a doctor from Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of aborted "tissue" - and then again this week when yet another doctor was on video haggling over the price of "tissue" from her clinic.  Both videos were done in public places - over meals - and both doctors appeared to be totally relaxed and comfortable discussing the process of aborting babies in a way to "preserve" the desired "tissue" - as well as the prices involved.

For years PP has been telling women that it's "just a blob" - "tissue" - "not a baby yet" - even up to 24 weeks!  Now we find them telling us that those "blobs of tissue" have hearts - livers - lungs - brains.  They say that they obtained permission from the women aborting their babies to donate the "tissue" for research - but I have to wonder how they phrased the release form - and how much they really told the women.  It's hard to believe that a woman would be told the truth - that the abortion procedure to be done will depend on what organs are needed/requested - and that in some cases the baby would be removed feet first in order not to damage organs that are only valuable if they're removed intact.  What woman could/would agree to that?

Women are being victimized twice - they're being lied to - put in physical/emotional danger - and manipulated into believing that they're doing something "noble" by donating their baby to science.

We do not believe that unborn babies are commodities to be bought and sold.  They are valuable HUMAN lives that deserve to be protected.  Silent Voices is committed to staying in the battle!

THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT!

It seems like there’s an app for everything these days – and that’s true for Natural Family Planning and menstrual tracking calendars.  The unfortunate truth behind almost all of these apps is that they’re no better than guessing about when a woman is fertile.  They’re based on the “Rhythm Method” – an old calendar method developed in the 1930’s.  According to Wikipedia:

“Calendar-based methods are various methods of estimating a woman’s likelihood of fertility, based on a record of the length of previous menstrual cycles. Various methods are known as the Knaus–Ogino Method and the Rhythm Method. The Standard Days Method is also considered a calendar-based method, because when using it, a woman tracks the days of her menstrual cycle without observing her physical fertility signs. The Standard Days Method is based on a fixed formula taking into consideration the timing of ovulation, the functional life of the sperm and the ovum, and the resulting likelihood of pregnancy on particular days of the menstrual cycle. These methods may be used to achieve pregnancy by timing unprotected intercourse for days identified as fertile, or to avoid pregnancy by avoiding unprotected intercourse during fertile days.

“The first formalized calendar-based method was developed in 1930 by John Smulders, a Roman Catholic physician from the Netherlands. It was based on knowledge of the menstrual cycle. This method was independently discovered by Hermann Knaus (Austria), and Kyusaku Ogino (Japan). This system was a main form of birth control available to Catholic couples for several decades, until the popularization of symptoms-based fertility awareness methods. A new development in calendar-based methods occurred in 2002, when Georgetown University introduced the Standard Days Method. The Standard Days Method is promoted in conjunction with a product called CycleBeads, a ring of colored beads which are meant to help the user keep track of her fertile and non-fertile days.”

Now – don’t get me wrong – the Calendar-based methods of the 1930’s were revolutionary and ground breaking – until then, women had no idea when they could conceive.  With these methods they at least had some idea of how their bodies worked.  BUT – it’s been nearly 100 years since then, and research and science have discovered SO much more information about our fertility!  So why would a 21st Century woman want to go back to that old, archaic form of family planning?  Probably because if it’s an App it appears new and shiny and fun!

Calendar methods fail – often.  Have you heard the joke about what you call people who use the Rhythm/Calendar method?  PARENTS!  In the 1930’s, it was better than nothing – but couples have newer and better options based on newer and better science!  The calendar method was based on a rudimentary understanding of a woman’s cycle – they were able to determine that “most” women ovulated about 14 days after the beginning of menstruation, and they would add a few days of abstinence before that anticipated day, and a few days afterwards to prevent conception.  BUT – not every woman is the same – not every women ovulates 14 days after menstruation begins – what happens then?  Those women get pregnant.

If you want to use NFP as family planning, it’s essential that you have a good teacher – someone to help you learn how to identify signs/symptoms of fertility – at least for the first several cycles.  There ARE good science based apps out there – and a teacher will be able to point you to one that will be effective with the method you’ve chosen to use.  Don’t just download an app – be a student of your body – learn how YOUR body works – and have someone help you in that process!  NFP is as effective as any other form of birth control on the market today – IF you have good instruction and you follow the guidelines (which you can’t learn from an app!)!

KNOW YOUR BODY!

I'm a Certified Natural Family Planning teacher - and I LOVE teaching women how to understand their bodies!  I talk to women all the time who are having problems with irregular bleeding - missed periods - and infertility who aren't getting the kind of help they deserve from their doctors.  All too often a doctor will simply put a woman on the Pill to "regulate" her cycle - without looking at why her cycle needs regulating in the first place!  I think this is lazy - there are lots of reasons why a woman might have irregular cycles - some of them are medical - and can be treated (and using the Pill to artificially control bleeding isn't treatment if nothing else is done).  Tests should be run to see if the woman's endocrine system is working properly.  If everything checks out normal, talking about stress levels is also helpful, as stress can wreak havoc on a woman's cycle.

Students who are trained to "chart" their cycles can learn when they're fertile - and when they're not.  They can use this information to postpone pregnancy - or plan pregnancy.  They can also use this information to monitor their reproductive health - when something changes on their chart they will either be able to explain it (high stress levels that cycle - loss of sleep - etc), or they will know that it's time to see a doctor.

Keeping a record of your fertility is empowering!  The Pill (and any other birth control method that relies on hormones) carries risks - there are potentially life-threatening side effects with any artificial method of birth control.  Natural Family Planning is safe - there are no side effects - and it's as effective as anything else on the market when there is good instruction and the couple follows the guidelines they've been taught.

SO - do you want to have to buy a drug that you will take when you're not sick - that can make you sick (now or later) - or do you want to know your body? !
