In Christ - I am near to Jesus

I am near to Jesus...

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Psalms 145:18 The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

James 4:8a Come near to God and He will come near to you.

It’s easy to think (and feel) like God is “way out there – somewhere.”  How many of us have lived for too long feeling distant from God?  The TRUTH is that if we are a child of God, He is as close as our heart.  The same Spirit that we see working with power in the Old Testament – the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead – THAT Spirit lives in our hearts.  Notice in Ephesians it doesn’t say that we “will” be brought near – but that we HAVE been brought near.  The concept of “drawing near” to God is very Jewish – you see it throughout the Old Testament – and it’s almost always talking about the Levitical Priesthood. The common people weren’t allowed to “draw near” – only those chosen by God to intercede on their behalf – those who had gone through the ceremonial cleansing and who were wearing clothing that set them apart – they could “draw near” to God.  “In Christ” EVERY child of God can “draw near” – we don’t have to go through another mediator – we have Jesus, and He has made it possible for us to “draw near” to God.  Sin will separate us from God – but confession – and a turning away from that sin – will restore us, and we can once again “draw near” – “in full assurance of faith.”  SO – child of God – draw near to Him today – and He will draw near to you!
